An Evening in Monticello

6:30pm at Grey Oaks Country Club
Attire: Jacket no tie, with ribbons

Thomas Jefferson brokered the sale of some land close to Monticello to a Florentine Viticulturist, Filippo Mazzel, inviting him to become his neighbor and help him realize his dream for the native production of wine in Virginia. The first plantings of European varieties were in 1774 in full view of Monticello. Today, the 25 miles of the Monticello Wine Trail is home to 30 wineries. Tonight, we will welcome a Virginia vintner and immerse ourselves in the full colonial experience of Jefferson’s day.Thomas Jefferson brokered the sale of some land close to Monticello to a Florentine Viticulturist, Filippo Mazzel, inviting him to become his neighbor and help him realize his dream for the native production of wine in Virginia. Twelfth Night
Attire: Jacket no tie, with ribbons

It’s widely believed that Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night was first performed in the court of Queen Elizabeth I at Whitehall Palace in 1601. The play immediately became a favorite traditionally marking the end of the holiday season. With that in mind, tonight’s dinner will have a festive Elizabethan theme.
